: : Someone please tell me the story of Daughter? Anyone's interpretation will be fine.

You know, that's pretty much the entire story that comes across when I hear the song. And when you explain it I think "oh. Well of course. It's so straightforward." Good work captain.

My attention was called to this song in particular because Grant mentioned wanting to sing it for coffeehouse night (college amateur open mic), and it struck me as a really weird choice for him. Of course, being an English major I tend to interpret sex into everything (Oedipus + Grant's wanting to sing the song gave it new and demi-incestuous meaning-- not in any way reflected upon you or your father).

Speaking of Coffeehouse night, I can't make any promises but I would really like to perform Enough to Go By. In the event that we get our acts together, (1) do you mind?, (2) would it be a lot of trouble to get tabs or sheet music from you, (3) want to come hear us? Just kidding. Texas is far away.

Last thing, and I hope you take this well... I don't want to make you self-conscious, but you write about the seasons a lot (a reason not to change the title of Daughter). Like Counting Crows and "rain kings" or the color grey. Yay! Go obsessive fans! Hey, can you give away any hints of future songs? Got anything in the works now? ^_^
